Administrative Services

Lex Crosett holds a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) Letter of Authorization for administrative-only actions. This means he can issue certain certificates, ratings, and authorizations through a documents-and-eligibility review process, without requiring a practical test or in-flight evaluation. The table below summarizes what an applicant can expect him to help with.

Service Authorization Administrative Service Fee
Foreign License Conversion DPE-FPE (Foreign Pilot Examiner) Administratively processes the conversion of a valid foreign pilot license to an FAA certificate, handling the paperwork and eligibility verification rather than a practical test. $400†
Military Competency Certificate DPE-MCE (Military Competency Examiner) For current or former military pilots, administratively issues an FAA certificate based on military flying qualifications and competency, without a separate practical test. $400†
Ground Instructor Certification DPE-GIE (Ground Instructor Examiner) Administratively issues Ground Instructor certificates and ratings, confirming eligibility and processing the certification. $250
Flight Instructor (CFI) Renewal DPE-FIRE (Flight Instructor Renewal Examiner) Administratively renews a Flight Instructor certificate through the documents-based renewal path. Renewal through a flight activity or in-flight evaluation is not available. $250
Second-in-Command (SIC) Type Rating DPE-BAE (Basic Administrative Examiner) Issues SIC type ratings administratively. $250
SOE Limitation Removal DPE-BAE (Basic Administrative Examiner) Removes the Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation from a certificate once the requirements are met. $250
Remote Pilot Examiner (RPE) DPE-BAE (Basic Administrative Examiner) Performs administrative actions related to Remote Pilot (drone/UAS) certification. $250
How to Tell If Lex Is the Right Examiner for You

If you need any of the services above — a foreign license conversion, a military competency certificate, a ground instructor certificate, an administrative CFI renewal, an SIC type rating, SOE limitation removal, or remote pilot administrative work — Lex can likely help you directly.

If you need a certificate or rating that requires an actual practical test or in-flight evaluation, that falls outside his administrative authority, and he would refer you to a DPE with the appropriate testing authorization. To get started, email and Lex will respond with a Google form to confirm your eligibility.†

† The Foreign License Conversion and Military Competency Certificate are the only two administrative actions that require an in-person meeting; the fee for each of these services is $400 as a result. All other administrative actions listed above are $250.
